Silent Auction for November 25, 2014
On Tuesday, November 25th, we held our annual scholarship fund raiser, the Silent Auction.
Since our inception, the Langley Retired Teachers have made the presentation of scholarships our charitable purpose.
We have increased the number of scholarships from one $500 award in 1993 to nine awards of $600 in 2013. The Langley Retired Teachers’ Association members give out these awards at the awards nights in the high schools of Langley.
We raise our scholarship money from several sources:
- up to $2.00 of our luncheon cost per member goes to this fund
- 50/50 draw at each luncheon
- a donation jar at the sign-in table
- the silent Auction
- a direct ask where a tax receipt is given. This may be for a donation or a gift or in memory of someone
- RTA Bursary Foundation earns interest each year.
The organization takes weeks to prepare and a special thanks to those members who helped in the organization.
They arrived early, around 9:30 am and set up tables, the sound system, prepared the sign-in forms and got the ‘pricing table' organized. As members arrived, forms were filled out and runners (walked) your items to the tables.

There was a fantastic arrangement of baked goods, books, CD’s, new kitchen utensils, paintings, vases, electronic equipment, candies, coupons for dinners at restaurants.
Bidding was a lot of fun although there are no friends in this process and members kept the bidding going.
