Adult Literacy Tutoring (Langley)

2.  Adult Literacy Tutoring (Langley) -- Kailey Erickson (contact person)
I am the Literacy Outreach Coordinator for Langley and I was wondering if you could share the following information in the LRTA newsletter or with the members.

We are actively seeking volunteers for one of our literacy programs: Community One on One Learning for Adults (COOL).

In the COOL program, volunteer tutors are paired with an adult literacy learner. They meet each week for one to two hours at the library to develop the learner's reading and writing skills. The COOL program helps both newcomers to Canada, and Langley adults who were born in Canada and have trouble with reading and writing.

Although as retired teachers I am sure most of your members are well versed with teaching reading and writing, our organization also offers a tutor training session to all new volunteers. We also hold several Pro-D sessions and coffee meet-ups during the year to provide support to the volunteers.

We will be holding a tutor training session in January 2017 so that would be an ideal time for new volunteers to join.

Thank you! If anyone is interested in learning more they can contact me at 604-217-2642 or [email protected] and I am happy to answer any questions they may have. We also have additional information on our website: http://www.langleyliteracynetwork.com

Take care,
