AIM: To promote excellence in education, past and present, in the Langley School District.
At our Branch we do the following:
- Honour learners and our profession by providing a scholarship to each Langley secondary school for students planning a teaching career.
Other activities to consider
- Work with the School District, the LTA and CUPE to develop a program where retired teachers can assist in schools.
- Provide retirees the opportunity to mix with working colleagues during Pro D Days.
- Organize courses with the District specific for Retires during pro-d days such as:
- Assisting in schools (The Do’s and Don’ts)
- Advertise to retirees, pro-d workshops being given by the district that may interest the retiree such as computer learning, art workshops, iPad use, iPhone use.
- Develop with the School District, workshops on how to help with Science Fairs - Reading Challenges - Sports Events and other possible district initiatives. With retired teachers the School District has an untapped resource.
- Promote the BCRTA “Golden Star Awards” — The BCRTA believes that within every community there is a wealth of knowledge and wisdom among seniors that should be used to enhance the learning experience of students at every grade level, right from Kindergarten through Grade 12.
- Work with other organizations to provide training sessions, such as the Fort Langley Museum, the Public Library, the Red Cross etc.
