Winter Greetings from Sue

It is hard to imagine, but most of us can congratulate ourselves for managing the COVID-19 restrictions of 2020. We have welcomed a new year with the hopes of a safe return to our “normal” daily lives.
Hopefully we will be able to celebrate the
30th Anniversary of the LRTA in- person towards the end of the year. The retired teachers of Langley were a part of the Surrey, Delta Associations up until 1991, when we formed a branch of our own. Many of our members will remember that significant time. The BCRTA is

celebrating its’ 75th Anniversary and their heritage committee has been working on different ways to acknowledge the milestone. There will be more information to follow on the endeavours to recognize these special anniversaries.

For those who have lost loved ones through these difficult months, we wish to express our heartfelt condolences and hope you can find comfort in the good memories that are undoubtedly present, but sometimes hard to focus on.

None of us would have predicted the significant adjustments we have had to make, with protective masks becoming a part of our daily attire. My freezer is stocked up, through boredom, with baking and meals that neither myself, nor my husband, should be eating. And my sewing machine has made a comeback with projects to help me not consume the aforementioned baking

With the promise of vaccinations on the horizon and, hopefully, a decrease in hospitalizations and deaths, perhaps we will see a return to in-person gatherings and a return to travelling outside of our community boundaries. We will try to keep you informed about the rollout of vaccinations as we receive any pertinent information.

The LRTA executive would like to thank everyone who participated in our “Cannabis 101” Zoom presentation on January 26, 2021 with David Hutchinson. We had 42 participants and the feedback we received was great. Comments like “ fantastic”, “exceptional” “informative”, and “helpful” were passed along to David, who wanted you to know he really enjoyed the opportunity to present his research and experience to us

Our next Zoom presentation has been organized by Heather Anderlini, and will be on “Spring Planters” - containers and baskets along with time for a Q & A. It will be on Thursday, March 25th from 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM. and our guest presenter will be Cara from Port Kells Nursery. We will be sending out the invitation at the end of February with a link for you to pre-register (limit of 50 participants). Keep watch in your emails for more information - hope you can join us.

On May 18, 2021 at 11:00 AM, we will be having our Annual General Meeting for all members via Zoom. At that time, we will need a motion to set our annual branch fees ,and an opportunity to look at the current budget and financial statement that John has worked out for us. We are hoping to host a half-hour presentation of interest to our members with more information to follow.

Towards the end of June, we are hoping to have a presenter on “Estate Planning”. Stay tuned for more information on our upcoming sessions.

Take care and continue to be safe -
